Beacon Blanket Robes 04/07/2011
Getcher beacon robes here! This is one I custom dyed for a man in Ojai. Fortunately in a sought after larger size...and with a deco button I added. I finally broke down and ordered Beacon Blankets Make Warm Friends from amazon - more later. Add Comment Mad Men Sunday 01/23/2011
Watching Mad Men from first season on to get into the mood for writing lingerie copy; adding finishing touches to all lingerie so it can get listed in time for Valentine shoppers - link to Etsy on right for full frontals! Closeups and Extra Info 01/15/2011
I'm working on getting more detailed info and images for certain high ticket items I have for sale on Etsy, especially Souvenir and Black Americana tablecloths - there is so much interesting historical info on these old "maps." Many of these sites no longer exist, or at least not in their former glory. This one is of course, pre Disney. I have another that is even older featuring silent movie stars, and will get it listed by the end of the weekend. Vintage Lingerie Dyeing 12/21/2010
Well this weekend I dyed a dozen or so slips, nightgowns, peignoir robes etc with acid dyes - good for nylon as well as silk and wool (I did a sweater and scarf too). This time I really paid attention to mixing and stirring and got better results, not so many streaks. Also, a boiling scour before dyeing is not a bad idea when it comes to used lingerie - some stains are just invisible until the dye finds them. Leacock Mirage on Oh My Yes 11/28/2010
This tablecloth has been featured on a very simpatico blog Oh My Yes, where I picked up a button to place on the item in Etsy. How cool is that? thanks Ann, for including me on your elegant site! Spring Mills PA 11/09/2010
Starting to dye some xmas cloths to sell this year - here are a couple with a "glacial blue" background for xmas - on the right is a Simtex, left is from the historic Spring Mills in PA. These vintage reversible blankets (this one wool) are really charming, especially with a 20's print like this one. Mama duck with an umbrella or parasol pushing a stroller with her other duckling hurrying to keep up. ![]() DYE NOTES: I used Procion MX fiber reactive dye, Sky Blue, instead of the usual acid dye for wool. I did not want to risk felting the wool with high temperatures, but still wanted a predictable color. Since this blue is a pure, unmixed color, I can be sure of the results. Otherwise when dyeing silk or wool with cold water dyes, the color will "shift" to an unexpected hue. The blue overdyed the orange to an interesting secondary tone of aubergine.
