Vintage Blanket and Robe Care
Congratulations on your Vintage Beacon Blanket Robe! It should bring you years of old fashioned American comfort, especially if cared for properly. Now if you are already snuggled up, reading this, and doing your nails, STOP RIGHT NOW.
Nail polish remover is acetone, which dissolves acetate, a form of purified rayon. Drops on the fabric could create holes. Other than that, the robe can be treated like any natural fabric blanket, that is, with intelligent care.
The original blanket robes were not wash fast, but mine are. If you do not choose to dry clean (recommended for easy care), a few simple rules will give good results.
Hand wash by gently squeezing soapy water thru fabric, rinse in same manner (do not wring or twist)
Allow excess water to drain away as much as possible, then gently
Roll in towels to absorb more moisture
Use the dryer only to air fluff, or dry flat in shade
Press as for rayon - use pressing cloth to be sure - carefully tug edges and bindings to original shape - you can follow with another air fluff in the dryer.
Better to fold your robe than to hang it for long storage.
I'm happy to help with any further questions.
